Happy Birthday !!!Andrew!!! and my new project

Today is my son Andrew's 30th Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday Andrew!

Taken at Andrew's birthday party on Saturday
which rocked by the way...

Deafness is isolating in the hearing world. Especially when it comes to support groups. There are no deaf MS support groups or deaf Compassionate Friends support groups. (that I know of) Interpreters are available but in reality they tend to separate you from the group because well...you are pegged as different. (a federal crime, I know...)

Back to my new project: I started a youtube channel for deaf parents who have lost children as well as those who have lost spouses.  It's new. As of yesterday in fact. I am the only one who seems to know about it... along with you bloggy peeps.  Guess you can watch it succeed or fail along with me!  =p

My youtube channel link on the right. Yes, it's in sign - it's hard for me to talk and sign at the same time. They are two different languages and ummm, my brain can't compute both simultaneously but one of these days I'll TALK because Gerry wants me to! =)  =)  =)

Suggestions on improving it would be appreciated....yes. And I did notice a huge increase in spam comments. (thank you?)

Alex says he can tell what I'm saying and he doesn't know sign language.

Hey that's great news because now I can sign to him all the time and he'll understand me from now on, right?

Okay I am down for the You Tube... interesting that you are going to be signing because I have always wanted to learn and am trying to figure out how I can take the course here at Metro...

...oh, and I wish you could ... well, you look SOOOOO pretty..! As soon as I saw your picture I thought to myself 'Ellen Barkin' (who I thought, think and prolly will still think is hot!!).

And man, why didn't your son act on a soap opera or something..? Grr... pretty people you..!
:0)

HAHA Santa Mark, I said it was my son's birthday twice on the video... heheheheh. At the very end I said Happy birthday Andrew!

Oh thank you... I clean up okay. I think I look better today than yesterday but that's the way it rolls LOL.

Thanks Karen! We'll see....I hope so. I'm new to doing youtube and I have a slow connection (so I have to sign slooooowwwwww) and I need to figure out a better way to get all the signs in the tiny window.

But I can't sign and tawk at the same time. At least I don't think so....ha.

What a hottie - oh and Andrew is good looking too ;)

I like your new project and will go check it out. I dated an almost deaf guy (he was deaf when he took his hearing aids out and was losing his hearing) so learned some sign. I got a feel for what it would be like, how frustrating and upsetting, to not be able to communicate like everyone else. One more thing I take for granted.

Glad to see someone else making videos. I think you can make some very significant talking videos, too. So give it time to get going. Both signing and talking! I just made a video today on a difficult subject. People tend not to watch those as well as more frivolous subjects but I have persisted because I think it is important to make some closer to the heart.

Ellen Barkin??? =)

I agree, Andrew's very cute. Now that school has started again he shaved the beard. Or said he was going to... haven't seen it yet to confirm. He does that every semester.

I like him either way.

Happy Birthday Andrew!

I hope your YouTube channel takes off, Sherry. It sounds like it would. Advertise on all the deaf blogs/sites like you have here on your own.

I should have taken the signing course when I was in college; after all my degree was in Speech and Hearing Sciences! Oh Well, my hand are uncoordinated enough that I can't play the piano anymore, so I think I would probably sign with a slur.

I love your videos! (still wanted a subtitled version for asl illiterate like me-i understood when you signed about Nicole but lost it.) I put up a link on my Friday post. You are making essential resources to help others grieve while feeling so isolated. Have a great day and Happy Bday to Andrew. Nice photo! mary
