It isn't easy to fix. You'd think "adding salt" via a salt tablet would help. My doctor asked me to stop because of my kidneys showing high chloride levels. Ohhhh-kay.... so I stopped.
The other night I had a massive headache, was slurring my words, stumbling around, trying to get in bed. Alex decided to take my blood pressure. It was 70/40. I was asleep before he could say a word.
The next morning he told me I had to take a salt tablet or go to the Doctor. I took a salt tablet, neener-neener because the Doctor sees me too many times anyway.
All the doctor tells me to do is "drink more water" and if I hear that one more time I am going to.....
SCREAM!
I drink gallons of water every damn day. More than you, you and you. I pee every ten minutes. I can't possibly drink more!
Damn kidneys. Damn blood pressure. Love salt. Hate chloride levels. Anyone have answers?

Hi there - I "saw" you over at Judy's blog - "peace Be With You". So I came by to say Hi.
Ya, blood pressure is tricky. So many factors contribute to it being high or low. Eesh.
I wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of your daughter's passing due to alcoholism. How tragic. As an addictions counselor for over 20 years I so understand the disease progression and how many die from addiction. I am truly sorry.
Well, come by my place if you like - it is not specific to MS only but certainly it is a part of it.
love Gail
peace.....
hmmmmm, Hypotension (low flow of blood through the arteries and veins) that is quite the dilemma, too high is a problem, too low is a problem, got to get it just right but how, hmmmm, ok let me pause a moment here and Google for suggestions? I'll be back...
am back……
Well I certainly learned a lot, I guess the water is because hypotension is known to Dehydrate the body but am sure you already knew that. I don’t know that I found a solution per say; however there is this site http://www.triedtastedserved.com/health-conditions/low-blood-pressure.php that recommends RAW FOODS. The also suggest things you should be adding your diet for low blood pressure such as:
*Pink Himalayan Salt – Just as salt has to be reduced for those who have high blood pressure it should be increased for those with low blood pressure. Take it in water though to increase blood volume and help prevent dehydration. If you don't want to take it like that try using nama shoyu
*Fruits rich in vitamin C, Fibre, Beans (lentils), Peas.
*Nuts.
*Vegetables to energise the body to become active,
*Take ocean greens, sea vegetables, vegetable juices
They also have Raw food recipes http://www.triedtastedserved.com/rawfoodresources.php
Don’t know if any of that make sense or how helpful I was because frankly am no expert on the issue. Good luck.
I, too, don't want to hear about drinking more water. I do my best to drink as much as I can but, like you, I'm already at the bathroom too much as it is. Water retention has never been my problem. On the contrary. You'd think I'd weight 20 lbs. less I pee so much.
Oh snap. I drink lots. I pee lots. My blood pressure makes up its own mind. Today I might be low (very low). Next week I will swing the other way. Aaargh.
First I was told my BP was too low, then they changed and told me it was GREAT (to be lower than 120/80), then I wind up in ICU for 5 days w/BP as low as yours after taking a Zanaflex for my MS spasticity (I'd been on it for YEARS! side effect: sedation)---they gave me horse POTASSIUM pills (?), now I am off Zanaflex, BP back to nicely normally low. Salt? Who knew? I don't eat much salt except the occasionally P chip and boxed cereal. Hmmm, no help here, but DON'T take Zanaflex!!!
No help here, I'm afraid, just one question - is your doctor aware of the conflict between your BP and your kidneys, and if so, what does he/she suggest? Maybe there is something else going on to cause the blood pressure drop other than not enough salt. Hope you can get some answers. It's no fun to be dizzy and less fun still to have bad kidneys.
Jenny, what's funny about the doctor is Alex measures my blood pressure the "correct way" he says and he says their technicians "cheat" by watching for the dial to "jump".
I am not an EMT so I can't explain. Anyway it affects my numbers. I suggested he bring that up in a niceeee way (LOL) at our next visit. He wants me off salt because of my kidneys but I can have a stroke if my BP is too low.
I see my Neuro PA soon and I will ask her about my BP problem...my Neuro was concerned about it so I'll pursue it with him. Fun.
Diane, I am on baclofen at night - and it causes low blood pressure. Hmmm.... but I had low blood pressure before even starting baclofen. I take it for night spasms. Without baclofen I stiffen up into a fetal position and wake up thinking I've slept in a spinning front loading washer.
Not with baclofen.
Rhapsody, I love veggies, never thought about eating them raw. Will check out the sites.
I was in the "Spice Store" and I DID see *Pink Himalayan Salt", wondered what it was... I will return and get me a private stash woohoo! YAY! And it is pink! =)
I will have to figure out what "ocean greens" are especially since I am no where near oceans and quite frankly wonder if things we consume from oceans are safe...sigh.
Thank you so much.
Gail, I will come by "your place".
